STAINLESS STEEL HANDRAIL

STAINLESS STEEL HANDRAIL

What do you do now that your brand new stainless steel hand rail has been built and looks fantastic?       It's now time to make the stainless steel corrosion-resistant and thoroughly seal it to keep it looking       wonderful all year.

Steel is naturally corrosive, making it an excellent choice for railings. So, what makes 316 stainless steel superior than other stainless steels? Because of the greater molybdenum content, it is more resistant to pitting and corrosion. Pitting and corrosion are your stainless steel's worst enemies when it comes to keeping it gleaming.

Passivation is a corrosion-prevention finishing procedure that is generally suggested. The passivation process in stainless steel removes free iron from the surface by using nitric acid or citric acid. The chemical treatment creates a protective oxide layer that makes it less probable for air to react chemically and cause corrosion.

When compared to aluminum, steel is often the material of choice for railing systems because of its better strength and hardness. Steel has obvious aesthetic advantages over aluminum, whose protective oxidation covering turns white over time and pits occasionally. Aluminum is prone to surface scratches and dents due to its softness, making it difficult to clean and maintain.

Steel vs. Aluminum

Anodized or powder-coated aluminum railings provide enhanced corrosion resistance while requiring minimum maintenance. Aluminum alloy railings that are non-sparking and chemically resistant are appropriate for industrial applications like petrochemical plants and offshore oil rigs.

Steel handrails can be painted, however they will need to be stripped and repainted every few years due to rust, which is not only ugly but may also cause structural problems such as bent or broken posts. Steel is more expensive to transport and install than aluminum since it is significantly heavier. Aluminum railings are lighter and easier to work with, and they can be cut to size using a miter saw.
